This page will serve as a general history of film and filmmaking in Buffalo and Western New York. We are requesting submissions from people who have knowledge, documents, photos, artifacts, scripts, and footage from:  
    1. films produced in Buffalo by outside production companies or producers
2. films produced in the area by local producers
3. documentaries made by Buffalo producers or about Buffalo
4. amateur films or educational films (no home movies please!)
5. industrial, training, marketing films & commercials of historic value

 
  Please submit all materials in digital form, Word documents, .pdfs, photos should be 72dpi or higher of at least 300x300 pixels, please have references attached to support dates, people, places, etc., footage clips should be quicktime or avi files of at least 320x240pixels and should be of sufficient length to illustrate the nature of the material.   Why submit? The history of film, filmmaking, and filmmakers in Buffalo has yet to be told. Think of this site as a “wikipedia” type site that everyone can add to, supplement, correct, etc.

What was the first full-length feature film shot primarily in WNY? (Hint - it is not “The Natural”)

Who can rightfully claim the title as the most successful filmmaker who made their films in and around WNY? (not James Cameron, he was born in Southern Ontario but has not made a film here)

What Hollywood production first mentioned Buffalo, but never actually shot a frame of film here? (Hint - it was not “Niagara” with Marilyn Monroe)
 
 
4.
What was the most financially successful film that featured Buffalo as a backdrop to the action? (this question is a confidence builder)
 
 
5.
What was the first film footage shot in Buffalo? (and it might not be the Pan Am)
